The Witch. Banished in 1861.

SOLD!

To peer into another world strangely familiar to our own. As alluring as it is enchanting.

This is an original handmade shadow box complete with a glass front and frame. It is finished in a dark satin stain and has been fitted with brass screws and an antique toggle switch, and powered by a 9v adapter.

The model depicts an authentic 17th century salt box house complete with lattice windows and rotting slat boards choked in vines. The grounds of the house oppressed by creeping woodland and the dead feeling of winter is all around.

This is what the box interior physically depicts. Only by curiosity and study will you fully realise that the solitude, abandonment and the unfathomable has more power here than the physical dimension.
All of my work in this series is inspired by the art of storytelling through unconventional illustration.

Looking closely into the fog you will see Thomasin. She doesn’t live here anymore but she visits frequently, she quietly gazes into the house and watches the dancing candlelight inside but it does nothing to warm her spirit.
Thomasin lives deep in the forest now, where the paranoia and persecution of the village can’t find her and the children forget. Unfortunately for this house Thomasin doesn’t forget..so she waits.

I have deliberately photographed this shadow box from an angle that keeps Thomasin hidden from view. However if you wish to see photographs I am happy to send via email.

The box is backlit with (replaceable) LED lights behind complex layers of scenery and atmosphere to create a lifelike and almost moving environment. This Box also features a flickering LED inside the house (also replaceable).
